Dr. Sketchy's Philly Does Philly Tech Week - Fembots / Cyborgs!
Join us at Kings Hall for a “Fembots / Cyborgs†themed Dr. Sketchy’s Philadelphia in honor of Philly Tech Week!
What is Dr. Sketchy’s? Dr. Sketchy’s is a monthly alternative life drawing event and worldwide phenomenon mixing cabaret, burlesque, a bar, drawing, games and a whole lot of debauchery.
In 2005, Molly Crabapple started the main branch of Dr. Sketchy's in a Brooklyn dive bar. Fed up with traditional figure drawing classes in a silent room with less than interesting models, Molly started what is now a sketch revolution with over 100 branches around the world. Artists of all skill levels gather to draw spectacular models, participate in drawing contests to win exciting prizes, and sip cocktails (and mocktails) with our resident DJ.
Known for her over the top sessions and wardrobe of a drag queen, Candy Mayhem has directed the Philadelphia branch of Dr.Sketchy's for the past four years. Monthly events are hosted at Arch Enemy Arts in Old City with past themes such as Xena Warrior Princess and Glamrock. A rule-breaking cocktail of drinking, drawing and dames, Dr. Sketchy's has popped up at the Philadelphia Museum of Art, The Mutter Museum and the Philadelphia Magic Gardens.
Who goes to Dr.Sketchy's? Lots of people. Fancy pants gallery artists, art students, dog walkers, jewelry designers, tattoo artists, illustrators and cubicle slaves. We have about 40% non-professional artists. Slightly more girls attend than boys.
Are there any rules? No photography without permission from the model.
Grab your sketch books and get ready for great tunes, great models, and libations at the first Dr. Sketchy’s Kings Hall has hosted! You’ll be glad you did!
A percentage of sales will benefit the Markeim Art Center in Haddonfield, NJ who’s goal is to promote the creation and enjoyment of the visual arts. Offering expanded programs and services for artists ensures that the Markeim Arts Center will continue to fulfill its commitment to that community.
Mark your calendars - seating is limited! This event will sell out!
