Museums and 3D Technology

Friday, April 244:30pm–7:00pm

3D Printing has made American Association of Museum’s TrendsWatch for two years in a row with the 2015 edition stating that “there are huge opportunities” for museums and businesses exploring 3D scanning and printing. Yet many museum professionals have never experienced this stunning new technology at first hand and don’t really understand its many possibilities for use in the museum setting.

This evening program is designed to give participants a full introduction to this cutting edge technology that is revolutionizing so many industries and opening up new avenues for museums.

The evening will begin with a demonstration of 3D technology in The Hybrid Making Lab at Drexel University. Following this, guest speaker, Don Undeen, Senior Manager of Media Lab at the Metroplitan Museum of Art will present some of the Met’s successful programs. A panel discussion featuring representatives from NRI and 3D Systems, makers of the Cube printers will discuss projects with the Cooper Hewett, the Smithsonian and other institutions.
